A Food Policy for Canada - What we Heard
September 7, 2018
The Government of Canada understands that choices Canadians make about food every day directly impact their health, environment and communities.
That’s why we are developing the first-ever federal Food Policy, which takes a collaborative approach to solving food issues, and helps put more affordable, safe and healthy food on tables across the country, while protecting our environment and supporting our farmers and food businesses.
Recently, we released a What We Heard Report that summarizes the feedback gathered during the extensive consultations across Canada – including many face-to-face engagement sessions and 45,000 responses to the online survey. I especially want to thank everyone from Guelph who participated in our in person session held last September and those of you who participated online.
The Report is now available online at http://canada.ca/food-policy. The ideas and stories shared during consultations are informing the development of A Food Policy for Canada. A date for its launch is being determined.
I look forward to working with Minister MacAulay and our Government to bring forward a long-term vision for the economic, social, health and environmental goals related to food. The goal of a Food Policy for Canada will be to identify a long-term vision for Canada’s food system, along with actions focused on the immediate food-related opportunities and challenges.
