Pharma

In Budget 2019, we announced our intention to work with our partners to move forward on three important elements of National Pharmacare:

  • We will create the Canadian Drug Agency to help coordinate the negotiation of prescription drug prices on behalf of all Canadians.  This could help lower the cost of drugs for Canadians by up to $3 Billion per year in the long term
  • We will work with the provinces and territories to develop a national formulary to make sure that there is consistent patient access across Canada
  • We are developing a national strategy for high cost drugs for rare diseases so that families will be no longer have to decide to sell or remortgage their home to pay for life saving treatments.

I hosted a telephone townhall after the budget and over 60% of the attendees who responded to our survey question supported national pharmacare.

Guelphites have spoke loud and clear that we want better access to medications and I will champion these efforts in Guelph and in Ottawa.

It is critically important that we get this right and our Liberal government will not rest until all Canadians can access the medications they need.

Sincerely,
Lloyd
