Government of Canada invests $1,464,430 to enhance tourism and community infrastructure across Halton Hills

FedDev Ontario supports Town of Halton Hills for 5 projects in to drive community revitalization, tourism and local economic growth

 

January 13,2023 – Halton Hills, Ontario

 

The Government of Canada is committed to supporting tourism and community infrastructure in southern Ontario by ensuring local businesses, and the organizations that support them, have the tools they need to position themselves for a strong and resilient economic future.

Today, on behalf of the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), Lloyd Longfield, Member of Parliament for Guelph, announced that the town of Halton Hills received a combined investment of $1,464,430 to support 5 projects under the Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) and the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF).

Through these investment, the town of Halton Hills will:

  • Design, creation and install visitor signs, supporting tourism ($17,500)
  • Replace the dehumidification units at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex ($428,070) and Acton Arena and Community Centre ($375,000)
  • Implement heat recovery technology at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex ($321,930) and the Acton Arena and Community Centre ($321,930) to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Today’s investments reinforces the Government of Canada’s commitment to helping tourism businesses and communities safely welcome back visitors, create jobs, recover from the impacts of the pandemic and prepare for future growth.

The announcement was made at an event hosted by the town of Halton Hills, which is receiving a non-repayable contribution of $1,464,430 under the Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) and the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) to prepare for growth, retrofit infrastructure and bring communities safely back together.

  • With a national investment of $500 million over two years, the Canada Community Revitalization Fund supports projects that build new community infrastructure and revitalize existing assets, bring people back to public spaces safely and stimulate local economies. This includes $139 million for projects in southern Ontario, delivered by FedDev Ontario.
  • The Government of Canada’s $500-million Tourism Relief Fund is helping tourism-oriented businesses and organizations recover from the pandemic and prepare for future growth, with a minimum of $50 million of the Fund allocated to supporting Indigenous-led projects or Indigenous-focused projects. FedDev Ontario is delivering nearly $120 million of the Tourism Relief Fund across southern Ontario.
